“The militarization of American police forces is a nationwide trend, one that has been carried out in concert with the rest of the warfare state. Radley Balko writes that, “A number of federal policies have driven the trend, including offering domestic police departments military training, allowing training with military organizations, using “troops-to-cops” programs and offering surplus military equipment and weaponry to domestic police departments for free or at major discounts.” For years now, the war abroad has been coming home, with police acting less as “peace officers” and more as soldiers.” Nathan Goodman, End War at Home, End War Abroad (via c4ss)

moralanarchism: Larken Rose:  When Should You Shoot a Cop? This is my infamous “When Should You Shoot a Cop” article, as read by me, with way cool visuals and other stuff added by the cool dudes at CopBlock.org. Let the emotional tantrums begin!

A great illustration of the dangers of the public’s indifference engineered by justifications born from neurotic defenses and conceived in the cognitive dissonance that arises when one begins to realize that they have been supporting unethical behavior and the police are not the good guys.

You have a natural imperative to exist.

Violence doesn’t have to be the police holding a gun to your head.  Violence can be telling someone that they have to hand over more of their property/income because they have a different sexual preference.  Violence can be telling you that you have to work to pay for a war you don’t think is moral.

Black cop says he would enforce segregation laws!  This is what is wrong with this country (and all others for that matter)—blind obedience.

The only religion I am attempting to invalidate with the posting of this cartoon is the religion of the State.  Imagine the priest as a rabbi or imam or whatever religious leader you like. The cartoon illustrates that the State’s use of force to impose law is just as absurd as any other religious leader enforcing doctrine with violence.
The State is just a group of people, not even representing a majority, who claim authority over you and sovereignty for themselves.  Whether it is an invisible god in the sky or the god of the State, it is all external authority to which others pledge obedience.  Like the gods of the world’s religions, the Statist has the State and its authority as their god.  The Statist has their constitution or book of laws for their bible.  From time to time, the Statist pays homage to their State’s flag and dear leaders.  Anything less than blind patriotism is sacrilege.
The State, however, is a violent religion that claims a divine right and monopoly to use force.  The State claims the divine right to decide whether you live or die.  The State claims dominion over your faculties from time to time so that you may labor for things you do not want or that are contrarian to your value system.  The State tells you how to live your life, to what philanthropic organizations you will give, how you regulate or protect your food and money, whom you may marry, how you access health care, and what you may or may not put in your body.   Statism is just another violent religion claiming divine authority over the individual, but unlike the priest, the cop is holding a gun and uses it to force compliance.
