Taxpayers Subsidize Walmart's Cheap Labor
State Socialists are always complaining about the state privilege given to corporations, but then they insist on welfare programs that subsidize cheap labor. Eighty percent of Walmart employees receive some type of government assistance to the tune of $2.66 Billion. That’s an average of $420,000 per store. In a free market without the state’s artificial scarcity rents, licensure monopolies, and other regulations, Walmart would have to compete in a free market for labor that would be much more scarce and expensive.
